Waterless Wash Test: All-Shine Waterless Wash n’ Polish 500 ml – £7.99 / 1 litre – £11.75

All-Shine Waterless Concours Wash n’ Wax – £7.99 / 1 litre – £11.75

A pump-action spray. The ingredients in both of these products are all natural and completely eco-friendly and bio-degradable, but while this is all good, do they still do a decent job? Yes, actually they do. Both products performed very well and exceeded our expectations. As far as we’re concerned they’ve set a new benchmark in waterless washes. For a start they smell amazing and in fact we had a hard time stopping each other from drinking the Wash n’ Polish, it smells that nicely of Oranges!

The All-Shine products were really easy to use and we’d recommend cleaning an area of around 40 cm x 40 cm (15 inches x 15 inches) at a time. Don’t let them dry out on the bodywork as they can leave very slight streaks. If you do find that streak marks are left behind, we found that the best way to combat this is (once you have already cleaned and wiped away any excess) to simply spray on a fine mist of the product and wipe it away quickly. This usually does the trick. Their cleaning ability and the shine they gave the paint was astounding though and post-use beading is pretty good too.

Remember that with waterless washes be gentle when taking the product off (in straight lines, never use circular motions), always use a good quality microfibre cloth, and turn it over regularly to avoid damaging your paintwork.

The Concours Wash n’ Wax (which contains Carnauba and Montan wax) gave a deep and lustrous finish whereas the Wash n’ Polish gave off more of a high shine. They both work well on plastic trim and glass too. All this, coupled to a very fair price means we have a hard time faulting them. On slightly heavier deposits, we found that the the Wax n’ Polish gave a better cleaning ability, but if there’s only a light dusting on your car, then the Wash n’ Wax is more suitable.

10/10 for both products. Awesome shine, easy to use and totally eco-friendly.

Smartwax

Waterless Car Wash Test: Smartwax SmartONE Waterless Car Wash 150 ml – £14.00 / 473 ml – £14.99 / U.S 8oz – $9.89

This came to us in the handy 150 ml size which will fit into any normal sized glovebox, so if the car needs a quick wipe over, it’s there ready. You use the lid and attached lid tube of this 150 ml bottle to pump pressure into it. You can then get a great light and even misting pattern laid down, meaning you use less.
Ingenious. Just a small detail, but that’s what we like in products. One point though, weirdly, it’s only around £1.50 more to buy the larger 473ml spray – we’re guessing the smaller one is expensive because of the pump-up-sprayer system on it.

The other 473 ml bottle comes as a trigger pump action spray, and if you clean your car a fair bit, it’s definitely worth getting over the small bottle. The SmartONE itself is very easy to use and completely non-messy. Spray on, wipe off, then give it a final quick wipe over. It contains Carnauba wax, which protects the paintwork, leaves a great shine and a nice glossy finish on plastic, plus it smells amazing too. We also tried it on the outside of the car’s rear and side windows, and it worked excellently, making the rain bead up and blow off at speed. It’s a good product and lasts okay too.

As with Smartwax’s other products, this is an environmentally-friendly product, but this doesn’t mean that they’ve compromised on the quality of it.

8/10 Works excellently on bodywork, plastic and glass, plus it’s environmentally friendly.

Onedrywash

Waterless Car Wash Test: Onedrywash 500 ml – £6.84 / Onedrywash Cleaning Kit – £10.76 car wash kit

We tested Onedrywash’s car wash kit, which includes one 500 ml bottle of the product, 2 microfibre cloths and a pair of latex gloves. As a starting point – the price is excellent! The microfibre cloths are of fairly goof quality and are soft. The 500ml bottle can be used on up to 7 cars (if used sparingly).

It was a very simple to use, and didn’t feel greasy or clog up the cloth when applying it. It’s a simple case of spray on, wipe off and then use a clean cloth to take off the dried residue. Easy. It cleaned the car well and left a good shine, but not quite as deep as some of the other water washes we tested. It did work very well on the outside of the car’s windows, and left them looking sparkling.

Beading capabilities are nothing to really shout about, but then this is a focussed waterless wash – not a spray wax.

As with all waterless car washes, don’t use it on thick dirt as you’ll only end up damaging your paintwork.

8/10 Easy to use, non-messy and leaves a good finish. The kit is excellent value for money.

ProShine gives a deep shine and a level of protection to paintwork, but isn't wax-friendly

ProShine

Waterless Car Wash Test: ProShine Spray and Shine Waterless Wash and Wax

16 fl oz (473 ml) £11.99/32 fl oz (946 ml) £13.95

This is a very good product! It’s extremely easy to use, and you just literally spray it on and wipe it off. We used it in direct sunlight, and the car was fairly warm. However, it didn’t ‘cake’ on and there was virtually no effort in taking it off. The car we tested it on was pretty dirty too, but the ProShine made easy work of cleaning the car and left an extremely deep shine to the paintwork as it contains Carnauba wax. Even the plastic came up well. It also surprisingly lasts well too, even in the harshest winter weather, and you’ll still be getting rainwater beading up a couple of weeks later.

A good idea after you’ve sprayed on and removed the ProShine, is to check along gaps such as your doors and bonnet as it dries a white-ish colour and you can clearly see any ‘overspray’. It will easily wipe off though, so don’t panic.

A word of advice though – although waterless washes can work well, they are not designed for cleaning thick dirt off cars – you’ll just end us damaging the paintwork if you try this.

Update: After trying this product out again recently, we did find that it will remove most protective layers such as wax, and also any previous tyre and trim products you’ve applied will be stripped off by it, hence the score reduction. Although it may seem a decent enough product to use, just be aware that any hard work you’ve put in on the above mentioned will be either vastly reduced in longevity, or will dissipate altogether.

7/10 ProShine gives a deep shine and a level of protection to paintwork, but isn’t wax-friendly.

+ If you’re not overly fussy with your car and don’t wax it often, then this is an okay product to use

- Strips away layers of wax and tyre and trim products
